17 Aug 05        Passage Kuala Terengganu to Pulau Redang     Back to Malaysia East Coast Cruise 2005

We began hosing the mud off the chain at 0700 and finally saw the anchor at 0715.  Our exit through the newly dredged channel was easy, with a least depth of 20 feet.  The back bearing to a diamond shape on a tower (similar to the one at the Kuantan River) was between 260 and 265 degrees.  This will be confirmed on our next entry when we stop again heading south.

We passed by Pulau Bidong to look at possible anchorages.  The bay to the southwest looked possible in fairweather but the one to the northwest was filled with buoys and fishing nets between them.  Neither looked very promising.

We arrived at Pulau Redang at 1415 and picked up a mooring at the location shown here.  The 31.5 NM trip was completed at an average speed of 4.5 knots ... mostly motor sailing as seems to be the usual case lately.

It took a day and a half to get the brown river muck stains off the boat and the dinghy.

The snorkeling was mediocre at best but the food at the Berjaya Resort was excellent.
