9 Aug 05       Passage Pulau Tenggol to Pulau Kapas    Back to Malaysia East Coast Cruise 2005

We dropped the mooring at 0727.  Soon after leaving the confines of the bay we found the wind filling in on a broad reach at 8 then 10 and 12 knots.  We settled back to enjoy one of the best sails we've had in a long time.  With a speed over ground hovering around the 6 knot range we enjoyed the pleasant sail under overcast skies which kept it cool on deck.

By noon the wind had died to a few knots so it was on with the 'iron genoa'.  We had averaged 5.7 knots (with a bit of help from the current), knowing the effort to clean the keel had paid off.

We dropped the hook at 1417 at the position shown here.

The 35.6 NM passage was made at an average speed of 5.2 knots.

We quickly got into the 'in port' mode of awnings, rain catcher hoses, solar panel deployed, sail and instrument covers, swim ladder, fenders, dinghy alongside, and hatch wind scoop ... all in time for a brief rain shower.

The small island to the north of our anchorage is Pulau Gemia, a privately owned island with the GEM WELLNESS SPA & ISLAND RESORT.  Rose had, in her words, 'the best massage of my life' there ... the 'Thai Baron' massage.
