1-2 September Passage from Perhentian Islands to Terengganu Back to Malaysia East Coast Cruise 2005
1 Sep 05 Passage from Perhentian Besar, Flora Bay to Pulau Resang

Pualu Resang was not our intended destination. We were bound for Terengganu, a 42 NM trip to the southeast. Mother Nature had other ideas. When the wind came up it was directly from Trengganu. We began beating into it until southwest of Redang when we changed our destination. After checking the moorings near the turtle hatchery on the north tip of Pulau Penang (which we rejected because of their exposure) we continued east about to the northern bay of Redang.
The previous outbound trip was 18.55 NM ... this trip was 26.7 NM. The
mooring we had previously used was occupied so we anchored in 20 feet over sand

2 Sep 05 Passage Pulau Resang to Terengganu

We weighed anchor at 0650 and began the 31.2 NM trip with light winds which increased soon to 12-15 knots from the east-southeast, putting us on a hard beat while motor sailing.
At 1245 an alternator belt broke ... but was replaced soon after.
We continued punching into the seas and pinching up as much as we could.
Our entrance to Terengganu, shown below, was a bit erratic due to the wind and seas, now running about 4 feet over the bar.
The newly dredged channel now has some marks of floating barrels, green and red, that help immensely.
After departure we found the channel to be along the course shown by the black line on the image below.
The least depth we saw was 20 feet at MLLW.
We anchored at 1535 in the position shown, among a fleet of fishing boats sheltering from the winds which were now in the 20 knot range.
We will be here awhile as we sort out computer problems (awaiting the arrival of a new laptop from Dell), pick up the dinghy oars, provision and do some boat maintenance.
