11 Aug 05 Passage Pulau Kapas to Kuala Terengganu Back to Malaysia East Coast Cruise 2005

Our trip was planned based on the tide chart for Terengganu for an arrival at high tide (1122) due to the shallow entry over the bar.
We weighed anchor at 0850 and set out under hazy overcast skies with a gentle breeze ... motor sailing at a leisurely 4.5 knots.

We arrived on schedule then began an anxious entry over the unmarked bar ... without the aid of any fishing boats entering or leaving! We didn't hit at any time but came close. There are dredging operations underway which have created a sand island at the entrance. After entering we noticed a completely new route to the southeast of the charted entry and this new sand island which was being used by large fishing boats ... something we will check out before leaving!
After a look along the waterfront for possible anchorages we went across the river and anchored at 1145 in 12 feet of water over mud.
The 11.1 NM trip was done at an average speed of 3.8 knots.
After anchoring at the position shown we took the dinghy back across the river to the main wharf which is used by Jabatan Laut (Marine Department) and a ferry to the Berjaya Redang Resort.
We will be here several days doing provisioning, some minor repairs and waiting for an early tide to cross the bar.
