29-30 Sep 05 Passage Juara Bay, Pulau Tioman to Sebana Cove Marina Back to Malaysia East Coast Cruise 2005
This final passage of our East Coast Cruise was a motor sail in light and variable winds, mostly from ahead.
29 Sep We catted the anchor at 0915 and began motoring out of the bay with smooth seas to the horizon. Not a good indication of any wind out there but the prospect of a smooth ride. Clearing the south end of Tioman we picked up light south westerlies .. 4-5 knots. These conditions held with the wind switching to south easterly at noon as we purposely kept our boat speed around 3.5 knots to time our arrival at the Singapore Straits at daybreak.
The mountain peaks behind Rose are at the south side of Tioman and are called the 'donkey's ears'.
30 Sep That very straight track for over 80 NM shows how calm the conditions remained and the great job the autopilot did. Had two 'heart stoppers' along the way as the engine momentarily lost power but quickly regained speed ... probably getting the very last of the air out of the system after the filter change?
Our timing at the pass into the Singapore Straits was on the mark at daybreak and we also found a current of up to 3 knots helping us shoot out into the straits. (The current flows southerly on the flood of the tide)
We entered the same slip we had used 15 weeks earlier at Sebana Cove Marina at 1315. A 28 hour passage of 107 NM at an average speed of 3.8 knots.
