2 Aug 05 Passage Chukai, Kemaman River to Pulau Tenggol    Back to Malaysia East Coast Cruise 2005

Weighed anchor at 0700 and again found the ground tackle clean ... no mud thanks to the swift current.

The tide was still rising and the current was against us at about 1.5 knots.

Cleared the channel (2.5NM) at 0759, rounded the shallows and, after crossing the channel into the Kuantan LPG port (the smell reminded us of Bintulu!) we had a straight run to P. Tenggol.

Prior to the LPG port we had 5 knots of southwesterly wind and had great expectation for a sailing day.  The wind died as we were abeam the port and we continued to motor.  By noon we had covered half the distance and then had 5 knots of breeze set in again .... but from the NORTHEAST!

The rest of the trip was a motor sail hard on a starboard beat ... and we were getting a boost from the current so our speed over the ground was just under 5 knots.

At 1629 we picked up a mooring at the position shown (it's not REALLY on the shore) in 85 feet of water.

We covered the 41 NM at an average speed of 4.3 knots.

During the night we had some rocking due to the southerly swell wrapping into the bay.
