3-10   September      At Terengganu             Back to Malaysia East Coast Cruise 2005

The dinghy oars

Took delivery of the new dinghy oars ordered on our last visit here.  Beautiful workmanship by Abdullah bin Muda, 'The Boat Builder' (Handphone Number 019-936-9500)!

Made from 'cengel', a local wood supposedly good for being in the water.

Terry added the turks head knots for 'buttons' and sewed on leather chafe guard for the rowlocks.

These oars follow the design of Pete Culler (see article available on Downloads page).

Bukit Puteri (Princess Hill)

It's a short climb up steps to Bukit Puteri, previous location of a fort that defended Terengganu and site of a bell that was used to warn against enemy attacks, disasters, and to announce the times of prayer and fasting during religious holidays.  Some views of Terengganu are worth the climb.  Here's one looking to the north.  The new marina is planned to be open in 2008.  The construction across the street from the public market (which is excellent) is for a new Police Headquarters Building.  VALHALLA is anchored to the right of this picture.

On our way to the largest museum in Malaysia we needed a ride to the taxi station.  Couldn't resist a ride in this one!

This impressive museum lies on the outskirts of Terengganu.  Three large multistory buildings and outlying buildings and displays make this a day well spent.
